At the conference held at the City Hall of Ancient Olympia, today, Tuesday, January 10, 2023, the “VISIT OLYMPIA” project of the Region of Western Greece was presented.
Essentially, the project is the creation of an online platform for viewing and promoting the cultural stock of the wider region, which is based on Destination Management System technologies and is a modern means of highlighting the archaeological monuments, cultural wealth, tourist infrastructure and attractionsof P.E.Ilias through an integrated system with a specially configured interface environment.With the development of the final destination management online platform, technologically advanced services are provided to citizens and potential visitors with the aim of informing them about the most important points of tourist interest, their comprehensive service and their active participation in the creation of a collection of digital content with historicalsequence or thematic association thus illustrating the historical development and the interest of citizens/visitors regarding the important points of the area.
The ultimate goal of the project is:
- the creation of a special tourist identity based on the rich natural and cultural resources of the wider area of influence of Ancient Olympia
- the creation of poles and axes of combined interest at urban and regional level
- the integration of the Region’s tourist and cultural resources into a single promotion and promotion network
- the creation essentially of a distinct, international scope and rechristened Tourist and Cultural destination
