“Breath” of culture with unique and popular events
After two difficult summers, with the pandemic and the big fires also changing the facts in culture, the International Festival of the Arts of Ancient Olympia comes this year to give a “breath” of optimism and upliftment.
“The effort we started two years ago, for a Festival worthy of the prestige of Ancient Olympia, continues, says the Mayor of Ancient Olympia, George Georgiopoulos. In this year’s program we have remarkable theatrical and musical performances, which add value to the institution and satisfy the demands of a large audience. Our choice to begin with the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Orchestra concert demonstrates our orientation to international level events. We believe that Olympia can play a leading role in the production of high-level cultural events, with character and identity. With the contribution of our partners at the Festival, we will continue this effort, hoping that soon this important cultural institution will open its wings for greater goals.”
The President of the Public Benefit Enterprise of the Municipality of Ancient Olympia (KEDAO), Roi Antonopoulou stated that “we are pleased to announce this year’s rich and highly popular program of the International Arts Festival of Ancient Olympia. The program includes 13 events and a special project with 2 large live “embracing” a larger audience, responding to the world’s need to be entertained and have fun after the pandemic and all kinds of difficulties in our daily lives. Let’s not forget that a festival must be open, reaching out to society, expressing wider trends, without exclusions. We certainly maintain the innovative and educational character of the Festival, with an emphasis on high art and quality, as this is a central goal that we have served in the previous two years and is expressed through a multitude of theatrical, musical and dance events that we organize alone or co-organize on the one hand with the Ministry of Culture & Sports and on the other with the Western Greece Region. I would like to dwell on the charitable nature of our Festival again this year, since last year our Municipality was the one that was affected by the disastrous fires in August and because of this we became the recipient of the enormous love, solidarity and offer of the world to the people of our villages who they were in need.
