Επέτειος του Όχι | Anniversary of the No

Ohi Day (“Anniversary of the No”) is celebrated throughout Greece, Cyprus and the Greek communities around the world on 28 October each year.

On Monday, October 28, 2019, there will be an doxology at the Church (at 10am), memorial service at Heroes Monument and wreath laying ceremony. Then there will be a minute’s silence in memory of the glorious heroes and fallen during the 1940s, and the National Anthem will be heard.

At 11am, there will be a parade of Kindergarten, Primary and High School students on the main street of the city, and traditional dances by students at the old Town Hall.

Ohi Day commemorates the rejection by Greek prime minister Ioannis Metaxas of the ultimatum made by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini on 28 October 1940, the Hellenic counterattack against the invading Italian forces at the mountains of Pindus during the Greco-Italian War, and the Greek Resistance during the Axis occupation.
