The Greek Independence Day of March 25, 1821 was celebrated with splendor in Ancient Olympia. The celebrations begin with the Divine Liturgy and the Doxology at the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos of Ancient Olympia. Then follows a memorial service and then laying wreaths at the Monument of the hero of the Albanian Front, Major Praxitelous Kondylis.
Wreaths were laid by the Mayor of Ancient Olympia and the representatives of Authorities of Ancient Olympia. On behalf of the Commercial Association of Ancient Olympia “ERMIS”, the Project Manager Dimitris Papaioannou laid a wreath. This was followed by the student parade on the main street of Ancient Olympia, Praxitelous Kondylis, in the presence of hundreds of citizens and visitors. After the student parade, parents and visitors of our city had the opportunity to watch traditional dances by students of the High School in the Town Hall Square.
